Agricultural extension services and cooperatives in Sweden

Since the beginning of the 90ies, agricultural extension services in Sweden are mostly provided by private or cooperatives organisations (See Hans Gradén, 2009).

• Hushållningssällskapet. "The Rural Economy and Agricultural Societies", is a federation of 17 independent societies providing advisory services to farmers and rural enterprises. Hushållningssällskapet has about 700 employees and 40,000 customers.

• Lantmännen. Lantmännen is an important cooperative group (owned by Swedish farmers) in the agricultural sector in Sweden. It has about 8,500 employees (in 20 countries) and 32,000 members.

• LRF Konsult. LRF Konsult is the advisory services branch of the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF). LRF Konsult has about 1500 employees (LRF has about 170,000 individual members).

• Växa Sverige. Växa has about 500 employees and 8200 members. Växa Sverige is an important actor in animal husbandry (dairy farms) in Sweden.

• Rådgivarna. Rådgivarna has about 40 employees and 650 members, and is connected to Hushållningssällskapet.
